How The Shidduch Exchange Works — For Parents
A step-by-step guide to using the platform to protect your investment in your child's shidduch process.
Create Your Account
Click "Sign Up" on the home page and fill in your name, email address, and phone number. You will receive a 6-digit verification code by email — enter it to activate your account.
Before you can add a child, you will need to enter your home address. This is used to help shadchanim identify the right family and is kept private unless you choose to share it.
Add Your Children
Navigate to My Children in your dashboard and click Add Child. Fill in your child's details:
- Name: First name is editable; last name is automatically filled from your account.
- Address: Automatically filled from your address — shadchanim need this to identify the right family.
- Bio and Looking For: A short description of your child and what they are looking for in a match.
- Bio Visibility: Choose who can see your child's bio — All Shadchanim, Verified Only, or Upon Request.
Add a Reserve
A reserve is a financial commitment — real money held in escrow that shadchanim can see when deciding whether to work on your child's shidduch.
- Amount: Choose any amount you wish to reserve for a successful match.
- Visibility: All Shadchanim / Verified Only / Upon Request — you control who sees the amount.
- Anonymous: Toggle this to hide your identity as the contributor (the parent will be notified anonymously).
- Payment Method: ACH (bank transfer) has no surcharge. Card payments include a 3% processing fee.
Managing Refunds
You can request a full or partial refund of your reserve at any time. Here is how it works:
- Submit a refund request — the amount will be released after a 90-day waiting period.
- The 90-day release date is set when you submit the request and cannot be changed.
- You can cancel a pending refund request at any time during the 90-day window.
- Important: If any engagement is reported on your child — even unconfirmed — all pending refund requests are immediately frozen until the engagement is resolved.
Confirming an Engagement
When your child becomes engaged, click My Child Is Engaged in your dashboard. This triggers the disbursement process:
- All pending refund requests are frozen.
- Reserve cancel buttons are disabled.
- A 14-day window opens for shadchanim to submit payout claims.
- After the window closes, you will allocate the reserve among the shadchanim who claim it.
If the engagement does not work out, you can revert the engagement report and all reserves will be unfrozen.
Disbursement and Platform Fee
After the 14-day claim window closes, you will see a list of shadchanim who submitted claims. For each reserve:
- Allocate the reserve among the shadchanim by percentage or absolute dollar amount.
- The total allocation must equal 100% of the reserve before you can confirm.
- A 15% platform fee is deducted from the gross amount before the shadchan receives their payout.
- An admin reviews and approves the disbursement before any money is transferred.
